Job Description

Be the Climate Educator You Wish You Had

Are you passionate about climate solutions and youth empowerment? Do you want to use your voice, knowledge, and leadership to help high school students understand the science of climate change—and feel hopeful about their role in shaping the future?

Future Climate Collective is looking for dynamic college students to join our Future Climate Fellows program—a paid, year-long teaching and mentorship fellowship. You’ll co-lead lessons on climate science, resilience, and solutions in Portland-area schools , and mentor student teams developing real-world climate projects —all while receiving mentorship from experienced climate professionals as part of our Impact Program .

We believe that the most powerful climate solutions begin with education that empowers—and we’re building a new generation of educators, connectors, and changemakers to lead the way.

What You Will Do

As a Future Climate Fellow , you will:

  • Co-teach in our Foundations Program —delivering flexible, visually stunning 4–8 week modules on climate science, emotional resilience, and systems change in collaboration with classroom teachers
  • Build trust and spark dialogue in classrooms where students may be anxious, skeptical, or overwhelmed by climate change
  • Support our Impact Program —mentoring student teams as they design community climate projects, from composting initiatives to public art exhibits
  • Serve as a relatable, near-peer role model , especially for students from frontline communities

Work closely with a professional climate mentor , receiving guidance, training, and inspiration from industry leaders in climate policy, consulting, development, and sustainability

Why It Matters

Today, only 14% of teachers feel “very prepared” to teach climate change. Most face systemic barriers: outdated curriculum, lack of training, and fear of controversy. Many schools relegate climate to a single science unit—if it’s taught at all.At Future Climate Collective, we’re stepping in with a scalable, community-based solution. Our Foundations Program brings compelling, ready-to-use climate curriculum directly into classrooms. Teachers don’t have to become experts—we provide that expertise through you, our Fellows. Our Impact Program takes it further, giving students a platform to take meaningful action—and pairs each project team with a real-world climate professional. These professionals are not just guest speakers; they are long-term mentors helping teens develop leadership and agency in the climate space.

Who You Are

  • A current undergraduate or graduate student studying Environmental Science, Climate Change, Sustainability, or a related field
  • A compelling communicator and listener who enjoys working with teens and facilitating dialogue
  • Passionate about education, equity, climate solutions, and collective solutions
  • Able to adapt to different learning styles and classroom cultures
  • Based in the Portland, OR area and able to attend in-person classroom sessions

What You’ll Gain

  • Hands-on experience in climate education and community engagement
  • Mentorship from climate professionals in fields like sustainable development, policy, and consulting
  • Training in climate communication, emotional resilience, and project-based learning
  • A $3,000–$5,000 stipend and a professional reference upon completion
  • A peer network of like-minded Fellows and educators
  • The chance to shape how climate is taught and felt in your community
