Miriam Kinyua– Founder & Executive Director

Miriam is a distinguished Learning Specialist, Counseling Psychologist, and passionate advocate for inclusion with over 14 years of experience in special needs education, safeguarding, and child protection. She is currently finalizing her PhD in Special Needs Education (Learning Disabilities) at Kenyatta University. Miriam holds a Master’s degree in Counselling Psychology and a Master’s degree in Special Needs Education. She also holds a Bachelor’s degree in Special Education (Physics, Chemistry, Hearing Impairment & Gifted and Talented) and a postgraduate certificate in Functional and Educational Assessments (Kenya Institute of Special Education). Additionally, Miriam has professional certifications in children and adolescent counseling and developmental language disorders.

Throughout her career, Miriam has been dedicated to safeguarding programs for children and designing tailored learning programs for students with additional needs, particularly in Mathematics and Literacy. She has worked with institutions such as St. Austin’s Academy-Lavington, Peponi School, PotterHouse School-Runda, Newdawn Education Centre-Nairobi, and Lavington Primary Special Unit, among others. Her expertise includes classroom teaching, student counseling, conducting psychoeducational assessments to identify underlying learning needs and crafting Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) for students.

Miriam’s extensive experience spans working with learners who have mental health issues as well as children with special needs and disabilities. She has worked with children with anxiety disorders, depression, Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), learning disabilities such as dyslexia, dyscalculia, and processing difficulties, autism, ADHD/ADD, emotional disturbances, Down syndrome, cerebral palsy, and physical challenges.

As the Founder and Executive Director of CHILD foundation, Miriam manages major administrative operations and guides the organization’s mission to provide inclusive and effective psychological/educational support for students with diverse needs.

Harun Mukiiri – Co-founder & Partnerships Lead

Harun Mukiiri is an ESG and Sustainability specialist with extensive experience in climate change programs and the agribusiness sector, spanning both the private sector, particularly the financial industry, and the NGO world. As the Co-founder and Partnerships Lead of the CHILD Foundation, Harun brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to the organization, contributing significantly to financial management and providing expert advice on sustainable poverty reduction programs for families.

Currently finalizing his Master’s degree in Climate Change and Sustainability, Harun leverages his deep understanding of these areas to drive impactful initiatives for the Foundation and the communities it serves. His commitment to sustainability and expertise in environmental, social, and governance (ESG) issues ensure that the CHILD Foundation’s programs are both effective and sustainable, promoting long-term positive change

Purity Charles – EI-EI Smart Spark Project Coordinator

Purity Charles is a dedicated advocate for Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE), driving the EI-EI Smart Spark Project with a passion for inclusive education. With a Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education and more than a decade of classroom experience, Purity stands at the forefront of empowering ECD practitioners. Her mission is clear: to highlight the importance of early identification of learners with special educational needs and to model best practices in inclusive education for children with learning and intellectual disabilities. Purity’s leadership is instrumental in shaping a more inclusive future for young learners, ensuring every child receives the support they need to thrive.

Faith Nyambura – Health and Psychosocial Coordinator

Faith Nyambura brings a wealth of expertise as a counseling psychologist, specializing in supporting children, adolescents, and adults facing mental health challenges and special needs. At NurtureNest Therapy Hub, Faith plays a pivotal role in coordinating the health and psychosocial support programs for children, ensuring both inclusivity and tailored care for those with disabilities. She extends her impact beyond direct care by providing essential mental wellness support to caregivers and parents, fostering a holistic approach to community well-being.

Faith’s commitment extends to educational advocacy where she trains educators and parents on positive behavior support systems and the nuances of inclusive education policies. With a Bachelor’s degree in Counseling Psychology grounding her practice, Faith embodies a compassionate and knowledgeable approach, making significant strides in promoting mental health wellness and inclusive practices within educational and community settings.
